                             Then                                 In greek mythology the city was founded by Perseus either by him dropping his scabbard and taking it as a good omen or him finding a hot spring nearby.  Mycenae is on a hill overlooking the plains around it.  Maycenae had an aquaduct from a water source 350 meters away.  Almost completely destroyed by a fire in the 12th century.

                              Now                          Mycenae is now a archaeological site. The site of Mycenae covers 30,000 square meters.  Mycenae is in ruins but also has two grave sites that had artifacts and pottery in them.

Mycenae is about 56 miles southwest from the greek city of Athens. It was know as the golden city because their king owned a golden mask. The city of Mycenae was ahead of its time For example it had indoor plumming around 1300bc that provided fresh clean water for the people who lived there and they also owned a huge fleat of ships for battle and cargo. The people where also known for their geometric pottery. Sadly the city was destroyed by fire in 1100bc.  After the fire it became a small town and in 468bc the city was destroyed again by the Argos.
